Aborigines want to live Sustainably?

From this mornings Herald Sun - "Utopia leader Rosalie Kunoth Monks told Amnesty chief Salil Shetty: "They're trying to starve us out of our home. They won't support us becoming sustainable in our own right."

'They' being all Australians who don't live in remote aboriginal settlements. These settlements have been operating since the late 1970's and have been fully funded by working Australians to the tune of millions of dollars each year. They will never be 'Sustainable' because there is nothing there.

The residents could become sustainable if they chose to live as their ancestors did, by splitting up into small family groups and wandering the desert fringes and living off what they could hunt or dig up. The problem is that the residents of these communities don't want to live like that. It's a hard dangerous way to live with no comforts and the threat of starvation and thirst constantly with you.

No what these Aborigines want is to live in the desert in housing with all the modern comforts supplied by other people. They don't want to work, even if they did who is going to establish a business in a remote desert settlement with virtually no literate workers available.

Sustainable to these people is having someone else pay for the life they choose to lead. The stupid people from Amnesty sucked it all up and say thet hard working Australians should pay for these people to sit on their arses and do nothing.

Our taxes at work.

Gratuitous Photo

Just because I can, a gratuitous photo of a gorgeous woman.

Mount Beauty in 1964

Mt Beauty, Victoria, Australia circa 1964. No Tawonga South to speak of, snow on the mountains. Can't make out the airstrip. Other than that it hasn't changed much in over forty years. I remember that the street lights were turned off at about midnight and the shops shut on Wednesday afternoon but stayed open all day Saturday. There was one copper (god knows why it has five now) and next to the SEC tobacco was king.

Where is all the Money that Gillard and Rudd Borrowed?

Daniel Hannan is a Member of the European Parliament, he's a forthright man and is a follower of the 'Austrian School of Economics'. The following quote I took from Hannans blog. It's from Ludwig Von Mises and explains briefly why printing money without producing more goods is a bad thing.

What is needed for a sound expansion of production is additional capital goods, not money or fiduciary media. The credit expansion is built on the sands of banknotes and deposits. It must collapse.
Human Action
True, governments can reduce the rate of interest in the short run, issue additional paper currency, open the way to credit expansion by the banks. They can thus create an artificial boom and the appearance of prosperity. But such a boom is bound to collapse soon or late and to bring about a depression.
Omnipotent Government
There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved.
Human Action

Right now, here in Australia Gillard and her bunch of economic illiterates are printing money and borrowing money on a grand scale. It can't continue and the longer it goes on the worse the reckoning will be.

Even if Gillard goes the next Labor leader will not change anything, they are too beholden to the unions and the greens and don't have the strength or intelligence to stop what they have started. Howard / Costello left a $60 Billion surplus plus the future fund (the future fund should have been returned as tax cuts). Now the $60 Billion surplus is gone and we are about $135 Billion in debt . Our debt has increased by about $8 Billion in the past two weeks.

Where is this money going? Where is it coming from? How are we going to pay it back? Right now each man, woman and child in Australia owes approximately $15,500 in government debt. That's on top of any personal debts you may have.

A few short years ago we had virtually no government debt and $60 Billion in the bank. Now we all owe a ton of money. Where did the money go? Some on dodgy school building programs, some on fitting insulation and burning down houses and stacks on welfare and god knows where RUDD and GILLARD have squandered the rest.

This is going to end in tears for us and our children.

The Defenders of Free Speech are Very Quite

I've previously written about Julian Burnside here, I noted how he received an award for free speech from an organisation called Free Speech Victoria. Not long after receiving this award Burnside called for Politicians who lie to be jailed. I thought that this was an odd view for someone devoted to free speech, and wrote to FSV asking that they withdraw their award.

Free Speech Victoria declined to withdraw the award their reasoning being that they thought that Burnside was just expressing  'wry humour, in the glorious tradition of ‘Rumpole of the Baily’ (sic). Since then FSV has disappeared from the internet, it won't be missed. There is another organisation called Liberty Victoria which at one time appeared to be associated with FSV as both organisations made a joint submission to the then Attorney General for Victoria Rob Hulls . Now Burnside has 'Twittered' an offensive tweet on Tony Abbot  his defence is that he was actually directing the tweet at Catholic Priests. What rubbish even if it was true it's just as offensive. Like many people on the left of politics at heart they are not pleasant people, if you are not on their 'side' they hate you.

Those who claim to support free speech have been noticeably quite during and after the Andrew Bolt trial. I didn't hear FSV or Burnside declaiming Bolts right to free speech. There is another organisation in Victoria, it's called Liberty Victoria their stated aims are 'To defend and extend human rights and freedoms in Victoria.'

I don't recall hearing or seeing them support Bolt yet they had time to give a freedom of speech award to wikileaks founder Julian Assange at the San Remo ballroom, I don't know if Assange made it due to his personal problems. Funny how Assange loves to produce other peoples secrets but likes to keep his hidden from view.

Now the point of this rather rambling post is to highlight how the people who claim to impartially support the right to for free speech don't. They take sides. It's all about politics, if you have the same views as they have then they will support your right to free speech. If you have views of which they disapprove they will probably ignore you and let your right to free speech go undefended. At worst they may even call for you to be jailed a la the Burnside call.
