A Beautiful Morning at Mt Panossis

I had a very pleasant half day at Mt Panossis. It's a wide treeless bowl which gets alot of sun (and wind). Unfortunately the greeks seem to have had no plan or idea on where to place the lifts. They seem to have been randomly placed around the bowl and operate at about one third the normal speed, they also seem to have had every second chair removed which makes for long ques and incredibly slow rides. This was late in the season but the snow was good with fresh powder to be found not far off the main runs. Unfortunately it started to cloud over about 1pm, that combined with long lines and slow lifts forced and early departure.

Greek Ski Fashions

There is a small village about 20 minutes from Mt Panossis where most people stay as there is no on mountain accomadation. It is a beautiful old village full of beautiful women and typical greek dining and night life. The greeks are no foolish followers of ski fashions, most prefer to stay with the trends established 20 years ago. One piece suits are the fashion of the day as evidenced by these two well dressed chaps after a day on the slopes.

The road to Mt Panossis

This is the road to Mt Panossis which is the premier ski resort in Greece. It is about 2 hours north east of Athens, the approach road while being fairly well potholes is a beautiful drive through forested land. A very easy drive as long as you are careful to look for lunatic greeks coming the other way on the wrong side of the road.

Greeks are crappy drivers

Everywhere you go in Greece you come across these roadside shrines, there are thousands of them. It seems that the families of people killed in that area put them up. On one strtch of road I counted over 20 in 5 kilometres. You will be driving on a curvy mountain road and as you come up to a fast curving downhill bend there will be 4 or 5 spread around the corner. They are crappy drivers.
